A single mistake on IRCTC resulted into a Big Loss

Last month, I was booking one ticket from IRCTC but unfortunately made a mistake which resulted into big loss for me. I booked a ticket from DBG to LTT, did online payment from Debit card and hopefully got a confirm ticket. I was quite happy after booking this ticket, but.....

After 2-3 days, when I was checking all inbox messages, my eyes went on SMS which I got from IRCTC. "Oh my God, How this happened ? " - this was my reaction after reading that IRCTC message. Actually, I had to book one ticket from LTT to DBG but I did the reverse way.

Now what to do ? I had no option rather than cancelling that ticket. You might be aware that as per new refund rules of Indian Railways, cancelling charges for a confirmed ticket is Rs. 120. The IRCTC service tax of Rs. 22.9 and debit card charges is never refundable.

IRCTC Transactions :-

ATM withdrawal of INR 724.35 done from your a/c ********** At IRCTC DELHI on 12/3/2016 12:56. Avl Bal is +****.**

I had to suffer a loss of Rs. 154.35 due to that mistake. After that I have booked my actual ticket of LTT to DBG, paid amount once again but got a WL 63 (Waitng List). I was praying that at least ticket status should come to RAC if not confirm seat before journey date. I was constantly checking PNR status with a hope that WL will reduce fast.

29th March came but ticket was showing WL so I had to cancel my ticket again because with WL e-ticket you cannot travel in train. This time a loss of Rs. 94.35 and previous amount of Rs. 154.35, so total loss of Rs. 248.7 . I could have got confirm ticket before itself but a single mistake resulted into a big loss for me. I have learned many things from this mistake which can be useful to avoid such mistakes in future.

How to avoid mistakes on IRCTC ?

  1. Fill all the correct details, do a recheck and be ready with payment methods.
  2. Do not book such ticket which is having WL status before journey date.
  3. Use high speed internet (at least 1-2 Mbps) for booking e-ticket.
  4. If you are not comfortable with e-ticket, then book your ticket from railway counter.

Conclusion :-

Keep Calm and book your ticket to avoid all mistakes.
